5 minute avocado dip

Even though this looks like guacamole, I wouldn't dare call it gaucamole. Or sometimes I do, when I'm with friends. But it's not, because there's no tomato, onion or jalapeño involved. It's a simplified avocado dip with exactly the same purpose as guacamole: to enjoy with some crispy tortilla chips (or any other purpose you would use guacamole for, but let's be real: it's best for dipping triangle shaped crispy heaven!). It really only takes 5 minutes to make this and you don't need a whole lot of ingredients. So let's whip this up, shall we?

Ingredients (makes dip for one bag of tortilla chips)
→  if you want to make more, just double/triple/... the ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1/2 juicy lime
- 3 teaspoons sour cream
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika powder
- black pepper
- salt

Kitchen tools
- bowl
- sharp knife
- fork
- spoon
- teaspoon
- serving bowl

Excuse the not so perfectly manicured nails still sporting a dot of white paint. #renovation
Step by step
1. Cut the avocado in the middle along the pit (turn while cutting) and twist the two sides apart. One side will have a hole in the middle, the other side will have the pit sticking out (like you see in the first picture).
2. Remove the pit: push the cutting side of your knife into one side of the pit and push it out.
3. Scoop the ripe avocado out of the two halves with a spoon and into the bowl.
4. Squeeze lime juice of your 1/2 juicy lime into the bowl.
5. Mash up the avocado and the lime juice together with a fork until you reach your desired texture. I like my dip very creamy but some prefer it more chunky.
6. Add two teaspoons of sour cream and all the spices to the bowl. I added the amounts of spices I use in the ingredients sections but feel free to experiment with these, everyone's taste is a little different!
Also, this dip is equally delicious without the sour cream if you like it super fresh and citrussy for summer! I used to make this even easier version all the time before one of my best friends introduced me to the richer, creamier deluxe dip with sour cream. And now I can't get enough of it.
7. With your fork, mix all the ingredients together really well. I know, the red spices will turn the mixture a really weird army green color, but who cares about the color when it's delicious right?

DONE. 5 minute avocado dip, ready to serve! I like to transfer my dip into a new, clean bowl to serve because the bowl you make this in will likely be a bit messy. And if you want to keep it all natural you can even use your avocado skin to serve the dip in, this looks very tropical!

Store avocado dip in the fridge
If you want, you can make a larger batch of this dip and store it in the fridge. It'll stay fresh and green for at least 2 days! All you need is a plate and plastic wrap. Cover your plate with plastic wrap, scoop all the avocado dip you want to store onto the wrap and fold in tightly shut. Push down on the wrap so the dip spreads to all the edges. It'll look a little like a green brick. This way no air can touch any of the sides of the dip and it won't turn brown, promise! Now just place the plate in the fridge and you're all set for a tortilla chips and avocado dip party tomorrow!

Let me know in the comments if you prepare this, or tweet me a picture! I'd love for you to try this super fast but amazingly delicious dip recipe. Oh and .... just for your information, as I'm typing this I am savoring every bite of my avocado dipped tortilla chips! HAPPY SNACKING! ;)

love,

Margot
